How to recognize a well-cared-for puppy
Coat, eyes, ears, behavior: the first impression, competently interpreted.
A well-cared-for puppy appears alert, clean, age-appropriately curious, and physically well-maintained. It doesn't have to be perfectly calm or immediately brave, but its overall condition should appear healthy, clean, and consistent.
Important characteristics:
- clean eyes
- clean ears
- well-groomed coat
- absence of strong foul odor
- absence of significant crusting
- clean anal area
- well-kept nails
- age-appropriate movement
- absence of extremely apathetic behavior
- absence of unexplained obvious tremors
